The Husqvarna company has a very interesting history, and can quite possibly be one of the oldest companies still in existence in the world. Originally founded in 1689 in Sweden, they started business by manufacturing arms (muskets) for the Swedish army. In 1872 they decided to enter the sewing machine manufacturing business, and today the Viking range are true marvels of technology. Many of the innovations in the industry were Husqvarna firsts - lubrication free machines, open thread guides, adjustable foot pressures, and alphabetic letter writing to mention but a few.

The range of products available is quite extensive, and there are items suitable from new sewers that are just starting out, all the way up to the high end items intended for the very experienced sewer and embroiderer.
Pictured on the left is the current jewel in the crown. The Diamond Designer released in June of 2008, and it is a technological marvel. It is a combination sewing machine/embroidery machine, and is primarily aimed at the full time sewer.
It has more features than you can shake a stick at, including more than 1000 pre-programmed stitches and a massive work area.
The recommended retail price of around US$9000 is sure to keep it well outside of the budget of most enthusiasts however.
The huge purchase price can work to your advantage though. If you sift through the listings above and you can probably find yourself an absolute bargain of a machine from the ladies selling their current machines in order to upgrade to this one.
